Strengthening Rural Communities: The Impact of the WORC Initiative

About

The WORC Initiative, a collaborative effort involving the Employment and Training Administration (ETA), the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), the Delta Regional Commission (DRA), and, commencing with WORC round 5 in 2023, the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC), actively funds grant projects within the Appalachian, Lower Mississippi Delta, and Northern Border regions.

These grants are strategically designed to address the specific employment and training needs of local and regional workforces. Formulated through close collaboration with community partners, the initiative aligns seamlessly with existing economic and workforce development plans and strategies.

The primary goal of the WORC Initiative is to provide financial support for grants that foster economic mobility, rectify historical inequities for marginalized communities of color, and address the needs of underserved and underrepresented populations. By delivering high-quality employment outcomes, the initiative aims to empower workers residing or working in the Appalachian, Delta, and Northern Border regions, facilitating their ability to thrive within these communities. The WORC Initiative plays a crucial role in tackling persistent economic distress by aligning community-led economic and workforce development strategies, ensuring long-term economic resilience, and positioning workers to succeed in both current and future job opportunities.
